For several years I am working on the cult of saints Cosmas and Damian in Ravello in the modern age, taking into account primarily the local documentation, published and unpublished. Attention stimulated by several factors including which deserves a prominent place the recent scientific interest in the cult of saints venerated in the Eastern and Ravello which produced, inter alia, various conferences. Following a path so that last month had come chronologically at the end of the seventeenth century and had stopped at the pastoral visit of Bishop Luigi Capuano dated 1694, I will try to reconstruct what was moral and legal status of the church of Saints Cosmas and Damian in the eighteenth century. On April 14, 1696 Monsignor Luigi Capuano Francesco D'Amato entrusted to the care of St. Andrew parish churches and the Pendulum attached, including that of Saints Cosmas and Damian. The new pastor exercised his ministry until the twenties of the eighteenth century at the same time dealing Office of Public Prosecutor of St. Tryphon, a position he had worked since 1689 on behalf of the abbots D. Claudio Filomarino and Giuseppe Renato Imperiali, February 13, 1690 appointed cardinal by Pope Alexander VIII. We find him appointed as received S. Cosma in the pastoral visit of Bishop Perimezzi began in September 1710. The learned bishop from Calabria, the author of several publications, including the notable "Life of Saint Francis of Paola, founder of the Minimum" or the "church in Rome called the Academy of dissertations' Concilj the Urban College of Propaganda Fide" , visited the church of SS.Cosmas and Damian September 26. The high altar is dedicated to Saints Medical twenty-three images of silver S. Cosma made ex votis fidelium a sign of devotion to the graces they had received and, perhaps noting the lack of bells, order the transfer to St. Cosmas of a bronze medal with the image of the saint then used for the clock of the cathedral. Likewise, a wooden statue of St. Cosma, kept in the Benedictine of the SS. Trinity was to be brought in posterum in the small church. Finally, with the greatest care of the vestments the priest Francesco D'Amato was asked to bring a case provided with keys so as to keep them decently. In those years the interior of the church had two altars, the altar dedicated to Cosmas and Damian and another in honor of Mary, the latter erected after the closing the worship of the church of S. underlying Maria del Lago, however, lacked the altar painting of the Virgin, damaged due to neglect, and therefore the Bishop Nicholas Guerriero ordered in 1718 that the canvas was painted within two months under the penalty of interdict on the altar. The order to place a canvas painted in 1721 is extended also to the holy altar dedicated doctors, but this operation will be carried out only in 1726. The constant attention to the decor of the place and the liturgical furnishings was confirmed by the bishop himself also in the "general decrees" issued after a pastoral visit. In 1732 he was appointed bishop of Ravello Antonio Maria Santoro Minimum order of San Francesco di Paola - same as Perimezzi - who distinguished himself not only out of pity and poverty, but repaired and expanded the palaces of bishops of Scala and Ravello. The bishop of Cosenza perform his pastoral visit at the end of 1733 and talking about the church of S. Cosma we mentioned a new benefit in the person of Don Eustace Pisano, a canon of the Cathedral. This is the last pastoral visit which speaks of the church, for the subsequent visits will be visited only the parish churches. Then the latter part of the article will focus on the figures of the beneficiaries of S. Cosma until the end of the eighteenth century. We have already introduced the figure of Don Eustace Pisano who in 1743 won the 'assent to the former apostolic delegation censuazione a "Selvetelle castagniale "located in the countryside of Ravello in the place" where it says on the box Fountain Carosi. "He was pastor of St. Andrea Pendulum until December 6, 1745, the day of his death. After some time the Bishop of Ravello-Scala Biagio Chiarelli called the First Contest for the care of the church. Care that was given to Canon John Mansi in 1753 is entered into the possession of the penitentiary, the dignity of the fifth chapter of the cathedral church, vacant by the death of D. Carmine Coppola. Determination to increase the stock of its churches in 1747 got the nod for a census of 15 grains on the site of the ancient and ruined church of San Lorenzo del Toro 'broken hill sun and battered walls, no floors and no astrico, fig tree planted at one and two screws Latin neighbors, even in the midst of the palace of 'lords of the house and Confaloni palatia. Don Giovanni Mansi held the church until 1756, when a letter from the bishop Chiarelli urged the custody of the church of S. Andrea Francesco Mansi Pendulum to the canon. To these succeeded the hebdomadal Onofrio D'Amato, who is also associated with this ministry as chaplain to the benefit of the simple S. Rosario patronage of Charles Manso and Tryphon, built in the church of St. Augustine and in 1744.Morì obtained in March 1782 and Bishop Nicholas Molinari Lagonegro convoked by the contest for the succession, won dall'accolito Scala Don Carmine Imperato. He was pastor for three years and died in 1785 so the Archdeacon D. Joseph Fusco, Vicar of the Chapter of the Diocese of Ravello, appointed the canonical Guerrasio Don Pantaleone, spiritual director of the Brotherhood of St. Our Lady of Mount Caramel in Ravello, treasurer curate of the parish church of SS. Andrea Matteo and the Pendulum and other benefits allowed, including that of SS. Cosmas and Damian. However, they were the last decades of parish life in the twenties of the nineteenth century because the churches of S. Andrew and St. Matthew's Pendulum and that of SS.
